The Cosplayer Feature is a series of interviews done by HappyCosplayer featuring cosplayers from around the world who would like to share their story. Cosplayers are featured every other day both here on my blog and on my Facebook pages: HappyCosplayer, JustCosplay.
“May you be inspired by them!” -HappyCosplayer
Featured cosplayer: Bruce Or Succubus

Happy: When did you begin cosplaying and what got you interested in the hobby?
Bruce: I started cosplaying about 3 years and 7 months ago. I met someone, her name was Autumn, I remember how she was telling me how fun it was to cosplay. I remember the spark it gave me, the feeling to want to cosplay. She’s the reason why I still cosplay. Since then, I cosplay characters that won my heart.
Happy: What do you remember about your first day cosplaying at a convention?
Bruce: My first experience at an convention, J1-con, it wasn’t nerve racking as I had imagined. I was scared of it being packed with many people. Autumn was there with me, so it wasn’t scary. I was Yuno Gasai from Future Diary/Mirai Nikki and she was Yui Hirasawa from K-ON!
Happy: Have you ever-experienced harassment or bullying while cosplaying?
Bruce: I was bullied by normies, they thought I was super weird, and would call me names. It would make me super uncomfortable to go outside in cosplay, I had low esteem. It took me awhile to gain my confidence back. I’ve been bullied since I was little for being different. I decided to ignore the hate. I want to continue my passion.
Happy: Are there things you have learned through this hobby that you never would have guessed to have learned before you started cosplaying? If so what are these new skill traits?
Bruce: I learned to interact with people more, you see I am antisocial, I am super shy. I can’t handle being around people. Over the years of cosplaying, I learned to step out my little shellbomb shelter. This new trait became very useful for me. I become used to human interaction.
Happy: A lot of people get overwhelmed or ‘brunt out’ over time with this hobby called cosplaying. Have you ever felt that way, or do you feel like you ever would? What would you say to those that maybe feeling burnt out now?
Bruce: I never felt this way, after all I got many years before me, to be burnt out is too soon for me. For those who are feeling burnt out, its okay to take a break as long as you want. Because your passion is still there, waiting for your return.
Happy: What is it about cosplaying that you love?
Bruce: I love seeing the smile on others, when they see a character they love with all their hearts. I felt that way all the time.
Happy: What is it about cosplaying you dislike?
Bruce: I hate how it hurts to wear a wig for a long period of time. It gives me a bad headache, that sometimes I looked like I am unapproachable. Or when someone ask for a photo when I literally have food in my hands, like give me some space I could be starving.
Happy: Why do you cosplay? Why do you keep coming back to it?
Bruce: Cosplay allows me as a individual to be myself, I cant stop my passion. It gives me the happiness I bring to others, that is enough for me to continue.
Happy: Over all how would you rate the cosplay community as a whole?
Bruce: Sometimes judgmental and constant competition with other cosplayers.
Happy: What are some of your favorite costumes you have worn?
Bruce: I enjoyed being Yuno Gasai the most, to free the inner Yandere in my heart and self. I swear, I dont bite. Maybe. Styling the wig was always my favorite part.
Happy: Do you have a dream cosplay you would love to do someday?
Bruce: I have a strong desire to become GenderBender Nagito from Dangaronpa
Happy: What are your future goals with cosplaying?
Bruce: I want to be able to inspire people one day. I want to be able to make many people I encounter smile and feel loved. Outside of cosplay, I want to become a Youtuber one day, so people be able to enjoy my rage and weird noises I make.
